The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation seeks a proven leader who can create an informed, engaged community capable of transformational change.

The Director develops and manages a multi-million-dollar portfolio of grants. 

The Community Program Director will:

- Champion initiatives to create and sustain informed, engaged communities;
- engage and connect thought leaders to development transformational opportunities;
- partner with other funders on innovative ideas.

Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to lead and mobilize people to tackle tough problems.
  • Intelligent risk-taker.
  • Judicious, astute decision-maker.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve positive change.
  • Ability to frame complex issues so people can understand and act.
  • Ability to work with others to find and develop creative solutions.
  • Proven record of working collaboratively to find and develop creative solutions.
  • Outstanding writer and public speaker.
  • Proficiency in budgeting, organizational and business management.
  • Ability to judge talent and spot up-and-coming leaders.
  • Strong computer and project management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, plus a minimum five years work experience.  Higher education is highly desirable.

Director - Business Consulting

Miami, Fla.

You are a proven business thinker and collaborative problem solver. 

You build actionable plans from creative ideas.

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation seeks a proven leader to play a senior role in the direction of our business consulting function.

The Director - Business Consulting will:

  • Work in partnership with others to create and support point of view on grants/ideas.
  • Provide direction to and collaborate with thought leaders to turn ideas into actionable plans.
  • Address business issues facing potential and current grantees.
  • Develop and manage a network of business consulting resources.
  • Perform technical and business due diligence.
  • Work with program staff to enhance business understanding, apply best practices.
  • Partner with foundation strategy and assessment toward knowledge development.
  • Educate others in best business skills practice.

Qualifications:

  • Entrepreneurial savvy and business acumen.
  • Proven problem solving ability.
  • Judicious, astute decision-maker.
  • Self-direct, analyze, evaluate and form independent judgments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others to find and develop creative solutions.
  • Ability to frame complex issues so people can understand and act.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer and project management skills.
  • Commitment to accuracy, attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Bachelor’s degree, plus a minimum five years work experience in senior business management or consulting. Higher education is highly desirable.
